You have to be a rocket scientist...

...to configure wireless networks!

Is it too much to ask that three airport extreme base stations and one airport express are able to give me a hundred feet of decent WiFi?

A whole sunday spent trying to blanket the house in WiFi and all I've managed to do is amuse the dog and frighten the neighbors.

It's not like I'm trying to penetrate brick or adamantium. It's fucking lathe and plaster!

I live in a 100-year-old Victorian/Craftsman transitional house near USC, and I had the exact same wireless problem that you do. The lathe and plaster are MUCH worse than modern walls for transmission. Here's how I fixed my setup:

If you're using Airport Extreme (and what a stupid Mountain Dew-inspired name, that is) base stations, then you should try plugging in a Dr. Botts EXTENDair Direct Airport antenna into your primary base station (the one plugged into the your T1 connection), then aim it directly at the furthest base station in your chain (which probably should be the Airport Express), then attach Dr. Botts EXTEND Air Directional antennas to any other airport Extreme base stations which are dropping signal.

The Directional antenna can extend your signal by 500 feet, the Omni antenna can increase your range by 50%. I shoot my Directional right at my Airport Express in my back yard, and all the other Extreme stations in the house benefit from the concentrated beams. I hardly ever lose signal.

Just be sure to be encrypting your network, and everything works out great.
